After the unrest of Freddy Gray’s death in April of 2015 and the aftermath of the Baltimore City riots, the inner-city communities are in the process of regrouping, repairing, and reorganizing its neighborhoods. Many businesses suffered vandalism and loss of merchandise that their livelihood had to come to a standstill. During the dilemma, those residents who destroyed their communities never contemplated at the time what they were doing to their neighborhoods. Several pharmacies and corner stores were impaired. Some of these locations were the only places convenient for senior citizens to travel for their medication. So many people were fed up with the police department and the manner in which they were being treated that they used this†¦show more content†¦One form of social disorganization that can be related to the predicament that happened in April is the siege mentality. While people develop reasons of hopelessness with authority figures, such as the police, the n people begin to doubt their credibility. Due to the treatment that law enforcement imposes on the lower class citizens; it affects their attitude and tempers to flare up which will make people respond in a violent way. This reading will focus on two different areas of Baltimore City which are the Western district of Sandtown-Winchester and the Southwestern district of Irvington. Emphasis will be on the demographics and crime trends in these areas of the city. According to the 2013 Censors Bureau, the population in Sandtown-Winchester totals 36,514 thousand and of that amount 16,732 are males and 19,782 are females. The area is a predominantly African-American community; however, with a diverse blend of other ethnic groups. The population in the community is made up of 14,331 families and of those numbers 3,995 marriages. The average household income consists of $39,314 and the middle being $ $26,077. Very few people have high school education, 23.7 % graduated high school, and 32.5% attended college. Giving the outline of society, the work-related employment is white-collar office jobs and the other types of work are those of a blue-collar worker, whose job requires manual labor. This example is a prime reason of unacceptable behavior carried on by same-sex partners in todays society. According to the many religious beliefs, same-sex marriages are immoral and sinful. It is understandable that not all people believe this statement, and we do have freedom of religion in the United States of America. One must see this issue from the point of view of a homosexual in order to fully understand the many controversies present in todays society. Being gay and loving another person is not illegal, but uniting that couple in marriage is rejected by most of society. Many people are unaware that legalized homosexual marriage is a probability, nor are they aware of the nearness of this situation. As things stand now, there is a better than 90% probability that homosexual marriage will be legalized (New Storm Brewing 1). Courts in Hawaii would not allow same-sex marriages, and that is now being looked at as unconstitutional. Disallowing these marriages is discrimination against homosexuals, which is a non-constitutional act. Even though same-sex marriages are considered immoral by the many religions, according to our laws there is no reason why these marriages shouldnt take place. Although laws do not make same-sex marriages illegal, there should be limitations. Same-sex marriages should be examined because they often wrongfully affect the well being of children, jeopardize the nature and rights of modern families, and wrongfully disobey many religions. Marriages of the same-sex should not involve children. There is no natural way that two people of the same-sex could have children; therefore, they should not be given custody of a child or the ability to adopt a child. Rules and regulation have recently been written in order to prohibit such situations. Government on the national level is proposing to ban Second-parent adoptions, which in the past have been approved. These regulations would require marital status to be given to the Department of Social Services. Many people have pushed for the approval of this regulation in order to protect innocent children from being placed in an unstable family. Another difficult situation that has been known to arise is when one parent of a marriage finds out that he or she is gay. The adjustment is a struggle for children who think they are a typical heterosexual family to find out suddenly that one of their parents in gay (Shapiro and Gregory 2). All too often children are put into this situation, and some have a hard time coping with the repercussions. Children who have parents of the same-sex are often unbearably harassed by other children and considered an outcast. An innocent child put in a situation that would be emotionally stressful for most of their youth is not necessary. Just imagine what a child would go through. Billy, which one of your dads wore the dress in the wedding? or Suzy, which one of your moms is coming to the mother-daughter picnic? Why put kids in an environment that is not morally or socially acceptable in todays society? It is often hard to let friends, family, and other people with whom you interact know that you are homosexual, or that you have homosexual parents. This was very noticeable in the case of Josh Gehman, when he had to explain to his fianc about his homosexual parents. I have chosen this course because I was curious about what is it in arts that it has always been a part of human life. As I have stated above, I have lived a life in a rather adventurous and quite dynamic way, and it is really interesting for someone in my condition to devote some of my time in art lectures and activities. This course has also proved to be productive in such effect that it has helped me developed and enhance my creativity and ingenuity. Moreover, being enrolled in this course has helped me relax my mind. Appreciation of art and seeing its connection to the modern era shows that people continue to see things aesthetically. The high regards that was given by society to perfection and beauty can be reflected on how people see things and create masterpieces. Through this course, I have realized that art is also an interdisciplinary course and that it requires as much effort and attention as any sports and academic classes there is. In fact, art is sometimes more intriguing and mind challenging since it is open to personal interpretation and bias. Art is an expression of brilliance and character. This makes it very different from other academic disciplines in which you do things with respect to rules and laws that were set by other people. Taking this Renaissance 200 as a humanities course in my senior year was a break away from my usual self. It is a challenging experience since I was exposed to a new dimension of learning. I also had conversation with a new set of friends who posses their own unique sense of humor and character. It may not be as challenging as any sports I have played yet the challenge in this course lies in understanding what is the connection between the individual and the society in which he lives, what it is that the individual especially the artist would like to say. Through the discussion of the different films and musical, one would be amazed as what artistic measures it takes to finish one film. It is not mere enjoyment but a sequence of aesthetic performance that should be able to capture the receivers attention and keep it. It is not a plain narration or a mere representation of reality for it captures what it is in reality that we seldom find interesting is actually full of mystery. Minute things that we seldom notice are given with great emphasis in this class. So far, this course has helped me realized how important arts was in a mans life. Art is in fact everywhere, as what you can learn in this course, art affects us sublimely and are presented to us in ways which we have never thought to be in any way artistic. Through my experience in Renaissance 2000, I was introduced to different kinds of arts and what it is for. Film viewing and appreciation of good music was in a different level after I have been able to relate arts with the changes in the modern era. Along with the knowledge on arts, I was acquainted with how much it is in a culture in which one belongs is rooted or deeply ingrained on art. Beautiful Mind Essay Based on what I have watched from the movie of â€Å"A Beautiful Mind†, which is a biography based on the true life story of a math prodigy, John Forbes Nash Jr., is an incomparable math genius student from Princeton University who definitely amazed the minds of people he meets. For me, he is an extraordinary person having a broad and an odd imagination as well. Unfortunately, he suffers from a mental illness called schizophrenia which he doesn’t even know himself. His friends find him weird or likely a nerd, but still they try to make friends with him. Nash tried to communicate and interact with them but in the end, it’s like there’s something that bothers him, some kind of paranoia that leads him to stay away and find himself alone and unconsciously creating things that aren’t really there (hallucination) and believing things that aren’t really true (delusion). Like for example, an imaginary friend which is known to be Charles (his room mate) and Charles’ niece. It’s odd but I strongly believe that all the things kept from his subconscious mind releases through Charles and other delusions his mind creates. I believe more than anything else, this movie focuses on perceptions of life. Perception of what is reality and what is imaginary, not only his perception but also people’s perception of him, and of the situation. Yet he was a brilliant man, although at times to people he seemed a bit unorthodox he was eventually accepted. Ironically enough I believe that it was his problems of not liking people, but wanting to be accepted and acknowledge that aided his mental state, however by the time he had become accepted his imaginary world was out of control. As years passes without knowing that he has such mental illness, Nash have invented some kind of Mathematical formula (equilibrium) which become popular and it startled me. He graduated and become a professor in Mathematics and romantically involved with his hard working student named Alicia and they even got married. But his illness turned out to be worse than I thought; his delusions become rigorous and more uncontrollable by his mind. He even believed that he’s been hired to work to the government to break codes. His other delusional product named Parcher, keeps on haunting him to work and to work which have caused him so much stress that made the symptoms worse. He keeps on believing that there’s a conspiracy, a mission by the government that will lead him to honor, but all of these are only in his mind. Nash continued his medication and deal with his delusional state. And it made me wonder, because according to my belief, â€Å"real mentally abnormal person doesn’t even know that he/she is not normal†. But in Nash’s case, how come he realized that he’s suffering from this illness and he can even stay away from his delusions? I don’t know but all I know are risks that may happen if you pay no attention to this illness. Without medication and therapy, they are unable to function in the real world. If they fall victim to severe hallucinations and delusions, they can be a danger to themselves and those around them. Schizophrenia usually develops gradually, although onset can be sudden. These were the symptoms that Nash have: Confusion, Inability to make decisions, Hallucinations, doesn’t eat regularly and lack of sleep, Delusions, Nervousness, Indifference to the opinions of others, A tendency to argue A conviction that he is better than others, or that people are out to get him. Fortunately, he was able to cop with his Paranoia and lived a simple life, he even got the Nobel Prize he ever wanted because of his genuine mind.

The Platonic and Aristotelian Views on the Role and Status of Women in

Introduction Women’s rights and societal roles have varied throughout history. Yet, a common theme that is notable across many times and cultures is the notion that women are inferior to men. In ancient Greece, the opinion toward women followed this trend, and women were often overlooked in how they could contribute to society. It was rarely considered that the traits women share could be of use beyond their household duties. In this essay I will analyze the Platonic and Aristotelian views on the role and status of women. Although Plato and Aristotle had distinct beliefs on what women could contribute to the collective well being of society, they shared similar opinions about the genuine status that women had in comparison to men. The Platonic view advanced the idea that secluding women to the home was counter-productive to the community as a whole. As such, women should be afforded roles that stretched beyond the boundaries of the home for the benefit of the community. The Aristotelian v iew, contrastingly, believed that the natural characteristics of women, which deemed them physically and intellectually inferior to men, made the home their proper place within society. In this essay I will advance the view that through the logic constructed by both Plato and Aristotle it follows deductively that women not only have a place outside of the home but their distinctive nature can add something of value to many areas of society. A Platonic View Toward Women: A Community of Women and Children It is sometimes contended that Plato was a feminist, but his concern for women did not stem from an interest in women’s rights, but rather the usefulness women could contribute to the benefit of the community. Meaning, society would receive... ...oes not follow logically that women are intellectually inferior. The nature of women that emanates from their traditional role as mothers and caregivers can in fact not only be sufficient but necessary for the optimal functioning polis. The compassion and consideration that emanates from the nature of women could be the true keystone in wholesome state, and the highest form of collective well being that Plato and Aristotle searched for. Project Management Case Study: The Spares Distribution Center (SDC) Essay

In the article written by John McMichael and Lockwood Greene (1994), the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group (BCAG) started to design and operate the new Spares Distribution Center (SDC) in SeaTac, Washington, for the company’s Customer Services Division. With the project aimed at yearly growth rate in the areas of inventory and shipments, there were internal and external risks that BCAG faced in relation to the project. Internal risks had something to do with the control system’s project design and implementation. As indicated in the article, â€Å"Custom software development with extensive sophistication and complexity could have increased design costs and jeopardized the overall schedule† (McMichael & Greene, 1994, p. 516). There were risks also in material handling, in managing extensive user input, and in the use of outside consultants. Internal risks were more centered on technical issues, which had to be solved through skills and correlation. When it came to external risks, however, these had something to do with political and social consent and acceptance. There had to be permitting by the new municipality, where the new project was to take place. Environmental impacts of the project had to be also considered here. More so, it was written that SeaTac was incorporated as a municipality â€Å"only months prior to the start of the project† (McMichael & Greene, 1994, p. 515), which reflected that the municipality was somehow alien to the processing of building permits and inspections. As for social acceptance, the new project of SDC would have had huge impact on the neighborhood, mainly because the project itself was huge. With the building to be extremely close to the SeaTac Airport, FAA’s rules and regulations should not be ignored. The new project of SDC posed some risks in the external and internal environments. However, these risks posed problems that could all be solved through communication, correlation, personal skills, and the procurement of knowledge and data. The most important thing, though, was to come up with the best project design that had to nullify all these risks.

Chapter 2 Network Infrastructure Plan Essay

The researchers used the Top-down Methodology for this study. Before, a data communications project even gets to the formal feasibility studies which are part of the development methodology that is proposed, it is useful to make a top-down, qualitative evaluation of a proposed data communications system. The Top-Down Methodology is a solution-oriented approach that focuses on particular business and technical objectives of an organization. The top-down network design process includes exploring divisional and group structures to find the people for whom the network will provide services and from whom you should get valuable information to make the design succeed. During the design project, several techniques and models can be used to characterize the existing system, new user requirements, and a structure for the future system. It is analogous to the methods utilized for the structured network design. Figure 1 shows the network design methodology phases which include analyze requirements, develop logical design, develop physical layer, test, optimize and document, implement and test network, and monitor and optimize network performance. Figure 1: The researcher chose the Top-Down methodology as the methodology to be used for the Network Infrastructure Design for Philippine Women’s University (PWU) due to its highlights on meeting both technical of the organization. The Top-Down methodology is composed of four major phases: Phase 1: Analyze requirements. The task of characterizing the existing network, including the logical and physical topology and network performance, follows. The last step in this phase is to analyze current and future network traffic, including traffic flow and load, protocol behavior, and quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this phase, the researchers will interview users and technical personnel to gain an understanding of the business and technical goals for a new or enhanced system. Phase 2: Develop the logical design. This phase deals with a logical topology for the new or enhanced network, network layer addressing, naming, and switching and routing protocols. Logical design also includes security planning, network management design, and the initial investigation into which service providers can meet WAN and remote access requirements. In this phase the researchers will also be conducting interview to the assigned IT personnel of PWU. And to further understand to the current network logical design The researchers will be studying documents such as the current configurations the devices of the current network infrastructure of the PWU. Phase 3: Develop the physical design. During the physical design phase, specific technologies and products to realize the logical design are selected. Also, the investigation into service providers, which began during the logical design phase, must be completed during this phase. Phase 4: Test, Optimize, and Document the Design. The final steps in top-down network design are to write and implement a test plan, build a prototype or pilot, optimize the network design, and document your work with a network design proposal. Phase 5: Implement and Test Network. The Designed and optimized network is implemented for use. Phase 6: Monitor and Optimize Network Performance. All day to day operation and maintenance are covered in this final phase. Children everywhere are being born into a world of images and messages, which are largely separated from their home, school and spiritual lives (Dyson 2). In society today storytellers are seldom parents, grandparents, teachers or the clergy; instead they are the handful of distant forces with something to sell (Dyson 2). What is unique about the media industry is that in global and corporate domination they have become part of our culture as well as our identity (Dyson 3). Social scientists and child advocates have been exploring the effects of media for decades, yet it is only recently that the concern has generated a public debate (Bok 3). Historical Disagreements concerning the effect of violence revealed in works of art and entertainment have resonated over the centuries (Bok 41). We must ask ourselves whether or not our versions of entertainment exhibits anymore violence then past forms of recreation, for example gladiatorial games or public hangings (Bok 23). Plato viewed human life as a pilgrimage from the appearance to reality (Bok 41). He also believed that a piece of art had to be strictly censored when they depicted any form of evil and cruelty (Bok 41). When an artist imitated what was bad, they add to the sum of badness in the world (Bok 41). Both Plato and Aristotle pointed out, we as humans do find delight in representations of objects and emotions that would consider different from real life; most of us agree with Aristotle in refusing to believe that they are corrupt (Bok 41). The Romans remain the prototype for violent entertainment at its most extreme (Bok 17). It was a culture, which sanctioned tradition, foreign conquest was a domestic culture, and weapons were easily available (Bok 17). The treatment of newborns and slaves within the home extended to crucifixions and other brutal punishments (Bok 17). Though on a whole the Romans did not criticize their choice of entertainment, one philosopher, Seneca, did. To exhibit the slaughter of eighteen elephants in the Circus, pitting criminals against them in a mimic battle [and] thought it a notable kind of spectacle to kill human beings after a new fashion. Do they fight to the death? That is not enough! Are they torn to pieces? That is not Enough! Let them be crushed by animals of monstrous Bulk! (Bok 18) Such entertainment was so popular that most military encampments had their own amphitheaters, and hundreds of others were built for the public around the Empire (Bok 19). No people before or after were so centred around displays of mortal combat as did the Romans (Bok 15). The only difference between today's society and that of the one during the last two centuries B.C., other than the degree of violence, is the openness of debates (Bok 20). Our institutions allow for open discussion and debate that the Romans were unable to have (Bok 20). People during all periods of time have derived some sort of sensual, aesthetic and even at time erotic thrills from viewing violent act (Bok 28). It would be unfair to conclude that in today's society such spectators and consumers of media are guided by no other motive (Bok 28). Extreme Acts in Recent History Though there has always been crime and violence never has there been such extreme acts, as the few which have been committed in the recent years. One very well known instance was the brutal death of James Bulger a British toddler. The movie Child's Play 3 was under debate when two ten-year old boys tormented and murdered the child (Bok 38). The Film was then criticized when Suzanne Capper was kidnapped, tortured and set on fire as the group of young acquaintances chanted: I'm Chucky. Wanna play? (Bok 38). Another even more recent and closer incident was the Columbine massacre. There is a striking similarity between the US incident and the actions which were occurring in Kosovo at the time (Rosenblatt 1999). A tribe of haters is Serbia and an ad hoc tribe of haters in Colorado (Rosenblatt 1999). In both of these cases the individuals discover self-worth by hating an enemy (Rosenblatt 1999). This humorous picture book was written by Julie Danneberg. Artist Judy Love created the comic and colorful illustrations in ink and watercolors. This is a funny book, with a surprise ending that will cause the reader to laugh out loud and then go back and read the entire story again. Kids starting middle school also find First Day Jitters amusing. A Story With a Twist Its the first day of school and Sarah Jane Hartwell does not want to get ready because she will be going to a new school. In fact, Sarah doesnt even want to get out of bed. When Mr. Hartwell tells her its time to get ready for school, she says, Im not going. Sarah complains that she hates her new school, I dont know anybody, and it will be hard, and...I just hate it, thats all. After much discussion, and no help from the familys feuding dog and cat, Sarah gets ready for school. By the time, Mr. Hartwell drops her off at school, she is terrified, but the principal greets her at the car and walks Sarah to her classroom. It is only on the last page  when Sarah is introduced to the class that the reader discovers that Sarah is not a student but the new teacher! The Author and Illustrator Author Julie Danneberg and illustrator Judy Love have continued the story of new teacher Sarah Jane Hartwell in the picture books First Year Letters (2003), Last Day Blues (2006), The Big Test (2011) and Field-Trip Fiasco (2015). With the invention of printing machines and later digital communication technology made reading books more common. The production and reproduction of the physical form of text experienced a great deal of changes from its initial stage to the current form, resulting in gradual enhancement of the literacy practice. In the twelfth century the woodblock printing, which was originally invented in China, made the Europeans copy only the pictures on the page, later full text was also brought onto the page. The radical development came with the invention of hand press by Johannes Gutenberg in the fifteenth century which consisted of metal blocks containing letters on them, and in spite of it being very  expensive it was used to fulfil the demand of books to the western society (Allington, 2012). This print culture was not cherished by all members of the society as the British politicians were afraid of mass literacy, before then the lower class had access only to chapbooks which contained outdated content. Church authorities attempted to deprive the common people of the literature. Newspapers were imposed with heavy tax by the British government to keep them out of the reach of the poor people with the Stamp Act of 1712. Despite all the hurdles put on mass literacy practice, English language was widely printed and literacy practice had increased enormously by the nineteenth century. It is stated (Eliot, 2007) that the literacy rate was 60 per cent in males and 45 per cent in females in 1800 which progressed to 94 per cent and 93 per cent by 1891. The printing press also went through rapid development in nineteenth century. The twentieth century brought more technological development as metal type printing vanished and photographic and chemical processing was established, this brought easy and fast reproduction of text in bulk setting up a wider range of readers by it being economical and accessible to all classes of the society. The industry of book production was in Edinburgh, Scotland in the seventeenth century and through printing English they managed to keep the English readers and readers from other colonies which maintained their British Empire. The less familiarity of the English language for Scottish people gave way to the publication of the first dictionary of the Scots and later with the political and national movements, the vernacular speeches and the ingenuity of writers made other languages to become print-language (Anderson, 2006, in Allington, 2012). In the story â€Å"The Storm†, Calixta is the mother of a young boy and the wife of man who seems to be a wonderful husband. Bobinot, the husband, and Bibi, the child, go to the store and become stranded there as a storm passes through. What Calixta didn’t know was that she was going to get a visit from a friend, whom she hasn’t seen for a long period of time, while her family is at the store. During the storm, emotions are running wild and the attraction between Calixta and Alcee is so magnetic that it seems to intertwine their desires. Needless to say, they made love, and after the storm Alcee left and Bobinot and Bibi came back hom e shortly. The question that needs to be asked is will Calixta invite Alcee back into her home on occasions, knowing what she did with him in her family’s home, and also, will Calixta tell Bobinot or act as if nothing ever happened?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Calixta is a woman who seems to be searching for pleasure; men aren’t the only humans that deserve pleasure. She loves her husband but seeks to explore pleasure elsewhere. Alcee was an old flame who seemed to still be in love with Calixta, and she probably still felt an attraction towards him. There are many assumptions that can be made about her future actions. She could feel guilty and realize what she did was wrong and disgraceful towards Bobinot and confess her actions to him. Calixta could completely ignore Alcee, never invite him back into her home, and never tell Bobinot, because she doesn’t want to cause trouble in her home. Telling Bobinot what happened could cause a separation, but not telling him is morally wrong. Calixta may keep her actions a secret and only invite Alcee into her home when her husband and child are gone. I feel that Calixta will continually invite Alcee into her home, whether her husband and son are home or not home, and not tell Bobinot what happened. She will probably keep him close, as a friend and as a secret lover, so she will have someone to confide in other than her husband and have a lover to give her pleasure whenever she desires.

Case Study in Waste Management of Philippines Essay

Describes how a survey instrument was used to collect data on environmental programs, their resourcing and control processes, and the level of community involvement in their development and ongoing management. These indicators of mainstreaming are discussed and particular reference is made to the Australian National University (ANU) and its experience with mainstreaming environmental management. The survey data indicate that in the majority of the surveyed institutions, environmental management cannot be considered a mainstream business activity. To aid universities in assessing their progress towards mainstreaming, a conceptual framework is presented and a model of organi sational change is discussed. Introduction In response to the calls for ecologically sustainable development (WCED, 1987) and for leadership in environmental protection (Leal Filho et al., 1996), many universities throughout the world are recognising the need to adopt environmental management systems and to integrate these systems into their business operations. However, in the USA  and Europe, at least, few universities are vigorously pursuing green initiatives (Dahle and Neumayer, 2001). One reason for this may be that environmental management remains a peripheral management issue. This article suggests that if environmental programs are to succeed, they must be mainstreamed into university operations, rather than sidelined as a soft management issue. While much information about environmental management in both US (e.g. HammondCreighton, 1998; Herremans and Allright, 2000), and European (e.g. Delakowitz and Hoffman, 2000; Noeke, 2000; Dahle and Neumayer, 2001) tertiary institutions has been forthcoming, aside from Howard et al.’s (2000) case study of the Charles Sturt University, little information about environmental management at Australian and New Zealand universities is available. Hopefully this contribution will stimulate discussion and interest and encourage further empirical studies on environmental management in Australasian universities. The aim of this investigation is to identify the extent to which environmental management systems are underpinned by business management practice and thus mainstreamed into university management processes. Herremans and Allright (2000) have suggested that the level of financial investment, and the level of senior executive involvement indicate how mainstreamed environmental management programs are within tertiary institutions. While agreeing, we feel that there are other indicators of mainstreaming that demonstrate organisational commitment. These include community involvement, the development of environmental plans and the presence of control processes. This article examines features of each of the environmental programs surveyed, with particular emphasis on the following:  The presence of an environmental management p lan and the level of financial and human resources available. . The control processes that exist (e.g. environmental management systems, audits, reports to management). . The level of campus community involvement in the program. After discussing the surveys, a brief case study of the Australian National University (ANU) will be presented. This is included because of the authors’ familiarity with the issues and not because it necessarily offers an example of best practice. Indeed, if the analysis shows anything, it is that while much has been done to improve environmental performance at the surveyed universities, there is still much more to do. Methodology and survey results The authors developed a simple survey instrument to gather information about the environmental management systems of Australasian universities. An invitation to complete the survey was issued to all universities in Australia and New Zealand via the Australian Universities Environmental Managers Network (AUEMN) and the mailing list of the Australasian Higher Education Facilities Managers Association (AAPPA). Of the 46 possible universities (38 Australian; eight New Zealand), ten complete surveys were received  ± a response rate of 21.7 per cent. The response rate for New Zealand universities (37.5 per cent) was much higher than that of Australian universities (18.4 per cent). The participating universities were: . The University of Western Australia. . The University of Newcastle. . The University of New South Wales. . University of Wollongong. . Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. The results of the surveys are shown in Tables I, II and III[1]. Table I shows base information about the environmental policy of the participating universities, including whether or not an environmental plan exists and the  level of financial support. Table II contains information about community involvement. Table III contains details of control processes such as reporting and auditing. Not surprisingly, as indicated by Table I, the survey showed that all participating universities had an environmental policy approved at the executive level. All policies where established between 1994 and 1998. Either working groups or formal committees developed the majority of policies; only two policies were established by employees without feedback from a working group or committee. All the policies established by the participating universities make energy conservation, waste management and â€Å"sustainability’’ key aims of the environmental program. Seven policies also make broad references to the teaching and research activities of the universities and the importance of consistency between the principles espoused in teaching and the actions of the corporate university. Only one policy makes a specific reference to â€Å"greening the curriculum’’. Seven respondents indicated that an environmental management plan was developed following the approval of a policy and that these plans are used to operationalise the principles detailed in the policy documents. Of the universities who did not have a formal plan, one stated that a plan was currently being developed, another that they â€Å"work from the policy’’, and yet another that the â€Å"university has an appropriate vision and objective which is driven by a well represented working party’’. One university without a plan also indicated that it was â€Å"becoming increasingly recognised that one would be useful . . . [to bring] various programs together and give them momentum’’. The survey asked respondents to comment on what, if any, management structure and budget had been established to facilitate the implementation of the environmental management program. Six universities stated that they had a formally established environmental management committee overseeing the implementation of the policy; four respondents indicated that there was no committee structure, with one of these respondents noting that the pre-existing management committee had â€Å"ceased meeting in 1998 and has not reconvened’’. The surveys indicated that the facilities management department played a strong role in the implementation of environmental management objectives, in all but one of the participating universities.

Creative ownership pertains to the right of an individual to possess his creative works such as discoveries, know-how, art works and writings In such, creative works are subjected to intellectual property rights wherein the creators or the owners are granted the rights to reproduce, modify or make an adaptation of his work, display or perform publicly and distribute either by sale or donation. As the right owner, full credit will be given to him for his work allowing the general public to access his work. However, to maintain the balance, time limits are set on the creator’s control over a particular work. Levels of human intellectual activity, innovativeness and effort to produce creative works vary amongst individual and define the quality and depth of the creative works. It is but ethical to commend and attribute the creator of his personal portrayal and output. It will encourage the creators and authors to do more of the creative works and further develop their crafts. Although the copyright owner can sell the rights, he has the moral right to be cited as the original author, the right to object to distortion or defacement and the right to object to be named as the author of mutilated copy. Although the U. S. Intellectual Property Law keep on modifying especially to the number of years the creator have a full control of his creative work and the cost of the patent or right, it generally aims to protect the right of the creator and writer from piracy and false claims. Consequently, the benefits and the rights to own and sell the creative works awarded to him will be on his control and discretion. At that, proper acknowledgement and credit will be given to him coupled with the creator’s prestige and satisfaction which will contribute to his fulfillment.
